“Music makes life make sense.” - G. Ingram

Welcome parents and music students to music class!
This is my 13th year doing what I enjoy, teaching music at Smith!  I have a degree from Xavier University in Louisiana in Music Liberal Arts with a concentration in Voice. I am a member of the Texas Music Educators Association and District Fine Arts Department. We promote music literacy and social-emotional learning through our TEKS-based music curriculum.
As I expose my students to various experiences and music learning, I seek to keep them engaged and highly motivated to try their best. It is a pleasure having your child as a member of my class!

“Making Art is your superpower!” - Jeremy Emmons

Hi, Artists! My name is Mr. Jeremy Emmons and I’m the Art Teacher at Smith Elementary. I started working in Alief at Smith in 2016. I graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies focused on Art; specifically Studio Art, Art History, and Collaboration Among the Arts. I am a member of the Texas Art Education Association and the Alief I.S.D. Fine Arts Department. I am also a children’s book illustrator and comic writer/artist.
I enjoy creating lots of different types of art, including digital art, acrylic paintings, pencil drawings, and 3D sculptures. I love the wide variety of methods and materials that can be used in art projects and I try to incorporate as many different types of art in my lessons as possible. Art class is so important for students because it helps to develop their skills in creativity, design, planning, fine motor coordination, hand-eye coordination, spatial reasoning, cultural appreciation, patterns, symmetry, geometry, emotional expression, and much more!
